I am a Biodynamic Psychotherapist working with adult individuals to offer a warm non-judgemental empathic guide and confidential companion space for your journey.
Hello my name is Julia O Neill and I work as a Biodynamic Psychotherapist with adult individuals, in person in Stroud and online.
As an experienced Psychotherapist, I offer a warm non- judgemental empathic guide and confidential companion space for your journey. A co-created relationship that feels safe enough for you to engage with and resolve the issues that are troubling you. A space with the opportunity for the heart body and mind to come into alignment and deep connection, and so a place to rest within whilst you rediscover the joy of living.
An Irish saying: ‘It is within the shelter of each other that people live ‘
My Background is in Sociology, Teaching, Youth Work and Counselling. Working as a volunteer Counsellor in a Youth Work organisation deepened my interest and so I trained for four years as a Biodynamic Psychotherapist in 1989 at The Garda Boyesen Centre London qualifying in 1993.
I have also worked as a Supervisor for 25 years with Accredited supervisees, students in training fulfilling practice hours, those post training working towards accreditation, and counsellors and therapists in Rape crisis centres.
I moved to Stroud in 2023 having spent 30 years living and practicing in Ireland.
Biodynamic Psychotherapy sees the wisdom of the body as fundamental to any healing journey, recognising how unresolved emotional and psychological issues from the past can be held in the body and mind, causing distress dis-ease and unhelpful patterns that can hinder fruitful living.
The personal challenges of human life, adverse life events and experiences and lack of affirmation and support to be oneself and the resulting adaptations, can lead to disconnection to one’s essential self, and the innate capacity for self-regulation and healthy balance.
In these troubling passages support from others, family and friends can be invaluable.
There are also times that the support of a trained psychotherapist can provide the space and support to understand, release and resolve the hurts and patterns that are inhibiting and blocking our well being and find our way again to the answers that are right for us, and to living a more fulfilled and authentic life.
Using a variety of methods Biodynamic therapy in working with the mind, emotions, body, and spirit, aims to restore balance and healthy free flowing life energy and in so doing enhance a person’s own resources for resolving issues arising and the opportunity to reconnect to one’s unique essence and sense of agency.
Deciding to come to therapy, allowing ourselves to be seen, often when at our most vulnerable times can feel daunting, but can also be a very positive and life affirming decision.
Engaging in psychotherapy has the potential to bring about personal growth and change. However therapy can be a challenging process and so may not be for everybody, or it may not be the right time. So I offer an initial low cost consultation session to explore if therapy is right for you and whether you feel I am the therapist best suited for you to explore your life issues with. Sessions are 1 hour.
I also offer:
Individual Supervision (1 hour) – I work from a place of respect and positive regard for the therapists’ modality, training, knowledge, skills and experience.
Deep Imagery Journeying – The Wisdom Within Session (1.5 hours). An opportunity to explore and address issues arising in your life through the process of deep imagery journeying, connecting you with your own inner wisdom and guides, and so discovering the answers that are right for you and your life.
