Monika Szeder

I am a qualified practitioner offering Therapeutic Counselling and EMDR. I provide clients support within a calm, non-judgemental setting built on empathy and trust.

About me

I am a qualified and experienced Integrative Practitioner offering counselling and EMDR. I am an accredited member of BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and the EMDR Association UK. My fully insured private practice is based in Stroud. I offer face-to-face and online sessions. My main counselling approach is Person-Centered, and I also use Existential Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic elements during my client work.

During my several years of counselling experience I worked in drug and alcohol rehabilitation and also in private counselling practice. I have also been involved in EAP (Employee Assistance Programmes) as a telephone counsellor. I became a counsellor after teaching and fostering.

As a Hungarian native speaker, we can have our session in English or in Hungarian.

What I offer

Counselling
As a counsellor, I offer a safe environment where you have the opportunity to address and understand your feelings and thoughts and get closer to your authentic self.

Typically, counselling can help if:

– You feel stuck and are not able to see the light at the end of the tunnel
– You find yourself in a dead end in your relationship
– You feel that your life has lost its meaning or its sense of purpose
– You wish to escape from unpleasant feelings
– You feel unworthy or unlovable.

We all have these feelings from time to time. Acknowledging and working on them is how we can begin to heal. This journey can be made easier in the presence of a professional counsellor.

EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that is recommended for treating unprocessed traumatic events. EMDR is a structured therapy that encourages the patient to focus briefly on the trauma memory while simultaneously experiencing bilateral stimulation (typically eye movements), which is associated with a reduction in the vividness and emotion associated with the trauma memories.

EMDR can help if:

– You might have a conscious memory of a traumatic event you haven’t fully processed, and it still has an impact on your life
– You might have experienced childhood abuse and feel you can’t get over it
– You might not have conscious memory but suffer from depression, panic attacks, or phobias
– You might suffer from PTSD or complex PTSD symptoms like nightmares and flashbacks
– You might feel triggered, irritable, angry, seemingly for no reason, or overreact
– You might feel you are reliving the past or trying to avoid certain situations
– You might feel frozen in grief for a long time.

Fees:
Counselling – £55 per 50 minute session
EMDR –  £65 per 50 minute session
