Helen Pearce

As a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, I offer you a safe, empathetic, confidential and non-judgemental space in which you can explore and untangle difficulties in your life and find a way forward.

About me

My practice is trauma-informed. I am aware of the profound impact that trauma can have on individuals and on all of us collectively. I also believe deeply in our resilience as human beings, and our ability to heal in the right environment with the right support. I focus on collaborating with my clients, empowering them, ensuring they always feel safe.

I take an integrative approach in my practice: I draw upon different theories depending on what I feel would benefit each individual client. The main theories I integrate in my practice are: psychodynamic theories, specifically Object Relations and Attachment Theory, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis.

My approach is also relational which means that along with the issues you bring to explore in therapy, I’m interested in the relationship between us, as well as the ways in which you relate to yourself and others in your life. Our relationship can provide us with valuable insight into unconscious patterns of thinking and behaviour so they can be understood and challenged.

What I offer

I have experience working with depression, anxiety, domestic abuse, childhood sexual abuse, rape, bereavement, family and relationship difficulties, alcohol problems, anger, eating disorders, existential issues and self-esteem issues. However, I have a particular passion for, and interest in, infertility, pregnancy loss, the postnatal period, breastfeeding grief, birth trauma and motherhood.

It is completely natural to feel some apprehension, fear, anxiety, or discomfort when considering starting counselling.

In our first session you’ll have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the process and my way of working. It’ll also be an opportunity for you to go into more detail about why you’ve decided to come for counselling and what you hope to get out of it.

Importantly, it’s also your opportunity to get a sense of whether or not you are comfortable with me and would like to work with me. If we agree to work together, sessions are then held weekly for 50 minutes.

Please feel free to email or call me to arrange a free initial phone consultation.

I offer long, medium and short-term counselling in Stroud and online. I regularly see a confidential clinical supervisor to support my work and have full professional insurance.
